This is Mrs. Dea’s twelfth year at Walnut, she enjoys bringing an appreciation for Art to the students. In addition to K-12 Art, Kandy is in her third year of being Walnut’s T.A.G. coordinator. Kandy finds T.A.G. fun and interesting because they get involved in areas that interest the students. She resides just west of Walnut, her family consists of her husband Daniel, daughter Danielle, and sons Dalton and Dustin.

Katy is very excited to be the new 3rd grade teacher.  She has taught 2nd  grade for one year and 3rd grade for 4 years in Ames, Iowa.  She is originally from Milford, Iowa (near Okoboji) and loves visiting her family there.  She also has family in Omaha, Nebraska and is looking forward to seeing them in the near future.  She enjoys reading, decorating, music and the out-of-doors.

Ms. Julin is in her fifth year of teaching and her fourth year at WCS.  She feels kindergarten is a great year for seeing growth in the students from beginning to end.  Angie is originally from Manilla, IA and her family consists of her husband Kyle, son Hunter.

Bill Kearney

Mr. Kearney has been teaching for twenty-five years and is currently in his eighth year at WCS.  Bill loves to empower students to become creative thinkers.  He is an avid Husker fan, and a native of Omaha. His family consists of his wife Andrea and their sons Dawayne, Blayne, Xavier, Devin, Ian and daughters Whitney and Ashley.

Brittney Krummel
Special Education Para

Brittney was a 2007 graduate of WHS. She graduated from ISU in December, moved back to Walnut, and finished the remainder of the school year as a substitute teacher.This is her first year working at WCS. 

Marie Livengood
Bachelors: Northwest Missouri State University

Ms. Livengood has been teaching twenty-nine years, all at WCS. She thinks it’s wonderful to be able to see how much her students learn, grow, and change during their school careers.  Marie lives in Atlantic with her husband Steve.

Courtney Long
6-12 Math
Bachelors:  Dana College 

Mrs. Long is in her third year of teaching and her second year at WCS.
She loves to scrap book, stitch, read, golf, and take her son Jax swimming.

Mrs. Nickman is in her sixth year of teaching and her fourth year at WCS. She loves watching her students figure something out for the first time and enjoys watching them become responsible students.  Laura is from of Neola, IA and she resides there with her husband and son Leo. 

Shannon Paup
Preschool  Associates: Southwestern Iowa CC
Bachelors: Simpson College 

Ms. Paup is in her fourth year of teaching at WCS. She is also the head coach for HS girls track and the assistant coach for HS girls basketball. She enjoys watching the children grow and learn every day.  Shannon and her husband James live in Adair, her hometown.

Ms. Ross started teaching at Walnut CSD in 2007 and is in her sixth year of teaching. She has a total of fifteen years experience and has taught at Malvern and AHST in the past.

Tonya Richards
7-8 Language Arts, 11-12 Literature/English
Bachelors: Upper Iowa University

This is Mrs. Richards' fifth year at WCS.   

Daniel Webster
K-12 PE, MS and Elementary Health
Bachelors: Simpson College

Mr. Webster is thrilled to begin his first year of teaching at WCS.  He is energized by Elementary students who are always on the move, and motivated to instruct MS/HS students about lifelong physical activity.  His family consists of his wife Rana, daughter Neviah, and son Kendrick.

Shona Weirich
2nd Grade
Bachelors: Buena Vista University [Elementary Education], Ashford University [Early Childhood Education]
Endorsements: Pre-K-K, Social Studies K-12

Shona student taught 4th grade in Walnut last year and spent the 2nd semester as a substitute.  She loves helping students succed and watching them figure something out for the first time and is excited to be part of the Walnut family.  She lives in Hancock with her son, Parker.


Support Staff

Gwen Blum

Library Aide Associates: Fashion and Art Institute of Dallas at Omaha 
Mrs. Blum is in her eighth year at WCS, her alma mater.  She is the varsity volleyball coach, cheerleading coach, and assists with prom.  She also runs the Book Fair in the fall and spring.  Gwen loves seeing the students succeed when they thought they couldn't.  She lives in Walnut with her husband Rick, and their children are Hannah and her husband Ryne Johnk, Lucas, Haley, and their late son Logan.  The Blums also run a wayward home for animals, with dogs Mojo and Dottie and cats Sherbie and Sebastian. 

Barb Eblen

Mrs. Eblen has been at WCS for seventeen years.

Teri Harmon
Secretary/Hot Lunch

Ms. Harmon is in her 15th year at WCS.  She is very versatile in her duties and will help out wherever needed.  Teri has been married to her husband Tom for 30 years and has 3 boys.

Mr. Holtz has been at WCS for nine years. 

Deb Paulsen
Preschool Aide 

Ms. Paulsen has been at WCS for nine years.  She loves seeing how fast the little angels grow up.  Deb is from Avoca and her family consists of her husband Neil, her children Breanna, Rachel, Brent, Jeff, and Nick, and 3 grandchildren Sidni, Tyson, and Tucker.   

Cindy Suhr 

Mrs. Suhr has been a cook at WCS for seventeen years.  A native of Omaha, Cindy lives in Walnut with her husband Terry.  They have raised three children: Stacey, who’s married to Alan Sorensen of Walnut, Jami, who’s married to John Sievers of Storm Lake, IA, and Trent.  They are proud to spoil their grandchildren, who are Savannah, Colby, Macy and McKenna.
